Before even watching the video I'm guessing this doesn't end well for the cat...

The cat ran off, so I assume he was okay. I wouldn't have posted it otherwise.

Yeah after watching that video still feel the cat didn't have a good day. Cats are designed to fall slower than people so it's reasonable to assume that the cat would survive that fall.

Cats always land on their feet.

I've always heard that. Amazing that it could run away.

I'm on the fence about this one. The cat didn't have a clean fall, and neither did it have a clean landing, but running away it seemed well enough. All the stories we hear about cats surviving falls out of buildings usually end well because they fall unobstructed and their v-max is quite low, while the tensile strength of their tendons is so high Baja racers won't have that kind of suspension for another hundred years, if at all. In cases of uncontrolled falls, however, cats rarely survive as their landing depends on spreading the force through all four legs and the associated ligaments. When they land off-balance (such as from very short heights, or when spinning like in this video), more often than not they result in hip or spinal injuries. Ironically, these injuries rarely prevent them from literally running off and seeming just fine, but they rarely survive more than a few days in that state.

I wondered about that. It was said that they didn't want to leave the cat up the tree to starve to death. Wouldn't the cat eventually get down by itself? Also, why didn't they use those ladders on top of the fire truck? Another also, why didn't they use something to cushion the cat's fall?

That cat landed sideways. Hips probably broken or internal injuries. I has a sad now. Thanks Skay. ::sniffle::

Odds are it would have scrambled down eventually, but not after leaving the neighborhood sleepless for a few nights. The answers to the rest of the question marks lie in this: because Russia.
